THE STATE OF ALASKA’S HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES SELECTS OPENCONNECT TO DELIVER CLIENT/SERVER ACCESS TO SECURE MAINFRAME DATABASE DALLAS, TEXAS (April 5, 2004) — OpenConnect Systems, Inc., the pioneer of secure Mainframe-to-Web solutions, today announced that The State of Alaska’s Health and Social Services (HSS) Office of Children's Services has selected OC Visual 3270, a mainframe access development tool, to create a client/server application providing secure access to information located on the State’s mainframe. This application will provide field agents with more immediate access to the vital background information they need before entering potentially volatile family situations. “It is crucial that we speed up the process for providing critical information to our field agents,” said Steven J. Williams, analyst/programmer V with Alaska’s Health and Social Services, Office of Children's Services. “OC Visual 3270 allowed us to write a client/server application that securely accesses the information required, without needing to make changes to the mainframe application. Now, field agents will receive an email directing them to a secured server where they can immediately access the information versus waiting hours.” Using OpenConnect’s Visual 3270, HSS developed and implemented a new client/server application that significantly reduces the time and expense previously associated with mainframe access. HSS currently runs twenty or more background searches per day. In the past, background requests were submitted to an authorized individual who would then pull all available database information. The information, often 20 or more pages, was then disseminated via fax back to the original requester. This process of printing screens and faxing could take several hours in some cases. To improve efficiency and because of the sensitivity of the information contained in the database, HCC turned to OpenConnect for help in creating a program that would enable authorized personnel to pull the information required from the state’s mainframe and save it to a secured server that the field agents can access. This allows the agency to get vital information to the field agents faster while significantly reducing costs. “We are thrilled to partner with HSS on this project,” said Stuart Burris, president and CEO at OpenConnect Systems. “OC Visual 3270 provides HSS with the critical secure access they need to information allowing them to improve efficiency and reduce costs without requiring any changes to the application on the mainframe.” About OpenConnect Systems, Inc. |
